Day and Night Book Tag

I’ve been tagged by The Lit Mermaid, so thank you!

Q: Do you read more in the morning or at night?

A: I definitely consider myself a night owl, so I would say night. Most of my morning is wasted by sleeping anyway 🙂

Q: Are there any books that changed the way you thought about things?

A: Absolutely. The one that comes to mind immediately is I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. The whole book was life changing, and I can’t recommend it enough.

“I understand the quicksand of shame.”

“Noah once told me he could hear horses galloping inside her. I got it.”

“I remember Guillermo saying the cracks and breaks were the best and most interesting parts of the work in my portfolio. Perhaps it’s the same with people and their cracks and breaks.”

And so on. If you haven’t read this book yet, please do. You won’t regret it.

Q: YA or not?

A: Definitely YA, mostly because those are the books that I have the easiest access to. I am open to reading pretty much anything.

Q: Are there any characters you honestly believe to be real?

A: Well, the way I see it, there’s no proof that any of them aren’t. So therefore, they all are (real, that is). However, the ones that I love the most- Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, Hermione Granger, Blue Sargent- are definitely alive in my mind.

Q: ‘Nobody borrows my books’, or ‘I don’t mind lending them out’.

A: For the most part, I’m okay with lending them out. However, if they do not come back in near-pristine condition, that person will have to buy me a new copy of the book. Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s up to them if they want to spend money or not.

Q: Do you ever smell your books?

A: No, I never really got into that.

Q: Not everyone likes books, is this positive or negative?

A: It’s actually a bit of both for me. I don’t mind that not everybody likes reading, because they like something else instead. Each person is entitled to their own opinion, and I am not going to be the person that tells them they’re wrong. How can an opinion be wrong? However, I maintain the belief that anyone who doesn’t like reading just hasn’t found the right book yet. So I’m kind of straddling the line.

Q: ‘I keep my books in the best condition’ or ‘Maybe not’.

A: I absolutely do everything I can to preserve the beauty of my books. I am, after all, a collector.

Q: Gosh, I have too many books! True or false?

A: False! I have plenty of room left in my four Billy bookcases, and I don’t think they’ll be filling up anytime soon! It’s nice to know that one or two or twenty more books won’t be the death of me.

Q: Have you ever spilled or stained your books with something? If so, how?

A: Yes, a few years ago (2013?) I managed to get my copy of Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore covered in pool water. Lesson learned- don’t read while wet.

Q: Toned or untoned while reading? In other words, do you work out and read at the same time?

A: No. I do have a bunch of stretches I do daily for dance, but I cannot concentrate on the book and the exercises at the same time, nor can I listen to an audiobook while stretching. I just lose my focus on one activity or the other.
